Brewer's TJ Ryan Center under new management - Bangor Daily News (Bangor, ME)

BREWER - There is a new manager at the TJ Ryan Center on AcmeRoad and he's letting people know of the programs the facility willoffer in the near future.

The center is home to a multipurpose surface and host toactivities including an ice rink, indoor play area and inlineskating, among others.

John Duff, who has a Bradley post office box and who identifiedhimself as 'part of the hockey community,' said Tuesday that heactually took over management of the facility on April 1.

Since then, he has worked to renovate the facility and ispreparing to kick off several programs.

'The week of May 11, we're going to go to inline [skating] for amonth,' he said. 'We're going to put ice back in the middle of June'for a full summer of hockey.

'We are planning on running several leagues during the summer -youth, men's, high school, midget, 5v5, 3v3, maybe even a broom ballleague,' he said in an e-mail to the Bangor Daily News sportsdepartment.

The facility now offers nighttime indoor soccer.

The plans also include changing the name of the rink to thePenobscot Ice Arena, and having a Web site with updates onhappenings at the facility. The Web site, www.penobscoticearena.com,will be up and running soon.

'We have several camps coming to the area, and have had interestfrom local coaches to run high school camps,' Duff states in his e-mail. 'We are looking forward to making this a great place to playhockey, and with your support, we can.'

The Brewer arena is one of only three ice rinks in the area.Sawyer Arena in Bangor and the Alfond Arena at the University ofMaine are the other two.
