Dec. 2--BANGOR, Maine--OLD TOWN CANOE NOT MOVING: Old Town Canoe is not moving to Mexico, according to its parent company, Wisconsin-based Johnson Outdoors.

For more than a month, a rumor has been circulating around the Old Town community that the longtime canoe and kayak manufacturer that bears the town's name was packing up and heading across the southern U.S. border to reduce manufacturing costs.

Cynthia Georgeson, spokeswoman for Johnson Outdoors, said Monday that she figured out how the rumor may have started and called the rumor unfounded and untrue.

Georgeson said Old Town recently hired a new manager who came from a production company that moved its manufacturing operations to Mexico.

The new manager has not been told to move Old Town Canoe's operations to Mexico, she said.

Despite some reorganization, no permanent jobs have been cut at Old Town. Some seasonal jobs recently were cut, as happens every year, Georgeson said.

BANGOR, Maine--TELFORD TO SELL SUBSIDIARIES: The Telford Group, which specializes in the repair and overhaul of regional-size aircraft, as well as selling aircraft parts and leasing aircraft, plans to sell two of its smaller subsidiaries: Maine Atlantic Aviation in Owl's Head and Flying Fashions in Bangor.

Telford is selling the subsidiaries in order to concentrate its efforts within targeted segments of the aviation industry, such as general aviation and commercial aircraft repair shops.

Maine Atlantic Aviation provides aircraft fueling and charter flight services at the Knox County Regional Airport located in Owl's Head, near Rockland.

Flying Fashions markets flying- and sports-related apparel at Bangor International Airport. It specializes in flight crew uniforms and related equipment.

The sale of the two businesses has not yet been completed.
